Google Apps and New Computers: Now What?

As the district continues the roll-out of new digital resources for students and staff, we are also developing related professional development workshops being to address the emerging needs of our teachers and staff at all levels of experience.  In short, we know there is little value to these tools if our lead learners are not integrating them in a way that helps transform our students’ learning in positive and powerful ways.  These professional development resources will include after-school and before-school workshops as well as a variety of online opportunities for our adult learners at all levels of experience.

Google Apps for Education will remain the cornerstone of our online resources, and the company continues to add resources to the Google Apps for Education suite of tools.  This is indeed a fast moving environment, yet most of these tools share common elements with the rest of the tools we are using (i.e. sharing, editing, formatting, and other collaborative features).  It’s always a perfect time to jump in and master the basics, which then opens a world of related resources.  It is our goal to provide such opportunities for the district we serve.

These opportunities will be available in My Learning Plan in the upcoming weeks.  For those teachers who are already using the district’s Google for Education resources, or those who are just curious about what’s possible with Google Apps, we are creating an online portal of resources, including best practices and short “how-to” tutorials.
