Meeting with Google Sales Team to Share How Philanthropy Impacts Lives

On Thursday November 3, technology learning facilitator John Calvert and I had the opportunity to share our district’s Google Apps story with one of Google’s sales teams in their New York offices.  At first I wasn’t sure of the connection between our district’s successes and the lives of approximately 50 salespeople who sell advertising space for Google and add profit to the company’s coffers.  By the end of the day, it was crystal clear; as a closing for the two days of sales meetings, leaders at Google wanted this team from around the world to see concrete examples of how their contribution to the company’s revenue stream also benefited non-profit organizations and schools.

The presentation was only about half an hour long, but in that short time we explained the impact Google Apps has already had on a number of students and teachers in our district, and the district’s vision of continuing to expand the use of this resource.  There was a question and answer session, so John Calvert and I spent some time sharing some of the excitement that is these tools bring to the K-12 environment, but also some of the challenges our teachers and students face.

It is with great excitement that we move forward this week with the roll-out of 90 Google Chromebooksat Felix Festa Middle School, thirteen of which were donated by the Clarkstown Education Foundation.  Though there are significant challenges to educators in these trying times, there are also incredible opportunities for us to make learning increasingly relevant and self-directed for our students
