Ms. Martinez’s Class Goes Google with Chromebooks!

This week students in Ms. Martinez’s classes at Port Chester Middle School began using Google Classroom and Chromebooks in a 1:1 setting.  I was fortunate to sit in on one of her classes and observe how quickly they became proficient with the tools.  Using a short writing prompt (“Being Cool in Middle School”), Ms. Martinez’s students were quickly engaged in their writing, eager to share exactly what it means to be cool in middle school.

This introductory assignment marks the beginning of what promises to be an exciting year for Ms. Martinez and her students.  Amber Klebanoff, assistant manager on our emerging technologies team, will be working with several teachers and this class as part of a pilot program that focuses on transforming the learning experiences for a cohort of middle school students.  Ideally this pilot will continue next year, with an extended reach across the district.
