South High School Students Skype with Author

On Friday, May 4, 2012 a large group of students filled Ms. DiSavino’s classroom at South High School to participate in a Skype videoconference with Hanah Tinti.  Ms. Tinti is the author of The Good Thief, a novel the students read as part of their studies.  As a culminating activity, students prepared questions for the author and participated in the video conference from their classroom.

In a follow up to the activity, Ms. DiSavino shared that her students have already tweeted the author and have received responses as well.  Connecting our students with real world authors and providing an authentic audience is a valuable component of keeping them engaged.  This was the second year Ms. DiSavino’s students have Skyped with the author.
